Sesame seared tuna steak is an easy and nutritious high protein meal. It features fresh tuna coated in sesame seeds, fried until golden brown on the outside and beautifully rare on the inside. I love to serve it with some warm basmati rice and a simple pickled cucumber salad.

Info and tips sesame seared tuna steak

When making a tuna steak it is super important to get high quality tuna that can be eaten raw (sushi grade tuna). You can usually find sushi grade tuna from fish markets or Asian grocery stores. When in doubt just ask before you buy!

A tuna steak is typically seared only about a minute on each side. This means the inside will still be beautifully pink and buttery. In order to not overcook the tuna, use very high heat and a high smoke point oil (not olive oil). When you place the tuna steak on the pan do not touch it until you have to flip!! Touching the steak or moving it around will prevent that nice crust and sear from forming.

Equipment

It’s super important to use a High Quality Pan for searing things on high heat.
