How it all started

I was born and raised in Lloydminster Alberta. I am the oldest in my family with two younger brothers. It was always important in my family to have meals together where we would sit and discuss about our days and connect with one another. I often think about all the laughs we shared over the delicious meals my dad would make for us.

I think my love for food began with these meals. It was apparent that good food brings people together, no matter the personal differences. I think when I was about 8 I asked my dad if he could teach me how to cook.

We began with lessons about cutting first. These consisted of knife safety and how to cut ingredients without slicing off your fingers. After I became comfortable with the knives, we started on very simple dishes over the years like Kraft Dinner and grilled cheese. By 12 I started experimenting on my own with different dishes. Of course, I made a lot of burned, curdled, or dried out meals, but this was all part of the learning process.

When my dad would cook, I would watch him intently. I was fascinated with the rhythm he entered when cooking. The ingredients flowed together with him. It was fast, efficient, and beautiful; it reminded me of dancing.

Cooking became one of my many creative outlets. I found peace when I cooked. It always helped quiet my brain down, it was just me, the ingredients, and endless possibilities.

The creation of Kenna’s Cooks

In the start of 2021, I was in college online. I had a little bit more time on my hands than usual. This lead to me constantly researching different business ideas, and listening to others stories about people starting their side hustle or online business. I realized I wanted to start something like that. So for the next six months I came up with ideas and wrote them in my notebook.

It wasn’t until the summer that I came up with the idea to turn my passion for food into a personal brand. The start of Kenna’s Cooks began in YouTube. My initial idea was to make YouTube cooking videos and grow on that platform. I made an agreement with one of my friends that I would create, they would edit and supply music. We would work and grow Kenna’s Cooks together.

We did this for a couple months until our schedules began conflicting. Once I realized YouTube wasn’t going to work at that moment, I decided to focus on TikTok, Instagram, and Pinterest. October 21, 2021 was the day I started consistently posting about every three days. It marks the day I fully committed to Kenna’s Cooks and started treating it like a business. Since then, I have been creating and posting recipes regularly.

The Future of Kenna’s Cooks

I plan on continuing Kenna’s Cooks for a long time. I truly think I have found my passion. I love creating recipes and sharing them across platforms. I find helping others create beautiful meals, become better cooks, and create a healthier relationship with food the most rewarding part. I find such happiness reading everyone’s wonderful comments and knowing that I have made your day a little bit better in some way.

In the future I want to expand my platforms and following base. I want to create a loving, accepting community of foodies and food bloggers where we can all support each other and offer new ideas or feedback.

Eventually I want to produce my own cookbook. Some other ideas I currently have marinating include my own merch and some type of seasoning blend, or maybe my own cookware product line!

Other Interests

Besides cooking I have several other interests I enjoy doing. The first one being soccer. I have competitively played soccer for 13 years and it is one of my other passions. Currently I am playing for Red Deer College.

I also love snowboarding in the mountains! If you have never had the chance I highly recommend trying it out πŸ™‚

I recently bought a Nissan 350Z and have been absolutely loving driving it (although driving standard was a bit of a learning curve)

I had to show my cat Pebbles. He is my little buddy and supporter.

Finally, I didn’t include a picture but I love playing video games, Minecraft being my favorite!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me. I appreciate every single one of you guys, if there is ever any questions or comments don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you for helping me build my dreams and a loving community of foodies.
