Shepherds pie gnocchi may just be better than traditional shepherds pie. This recipe features ground beef, vegetables, and pillowy gnocchi simmered in a rich creamy broth, topped with fresh parsley and parmesan.

Info and tips for gnocchi shepherds pie

  • To maximize the flavour, always cook in steps. This means allowing enough time for each ingredient to develop its flavour before adding the next. I always take extra time caramelizing the ground beef with the onion before adding the tomato paste. Once the tomato paste is added along with the garlic and seasonings, I allow ample time for those flavours to bloom. If you focus on slowly cooking each ingredient to allow it to become fragrant, you will notice such a flavour difference as opposed to just dumping everything together.
  • Gnocchi doesn’t need very long to cook, so it gets added very near to the end. If gnocchi gets cooked to long it will become a soft gummy blob which is gross.
