Spicy Vodka Sauce Gnocchi

Spicy vodka sauce gnocchi features pillowy gnocchi cooked in a creamy tomato sauce with a touch of vodka and heat.

Spicy vodka sauce gnocchi is a super easy one pot meal you can make for dinner. This recipe features pillowy gnocchi cooked in a creamy tomato sauce with a touch of vodka and heat.

Info and tips for spicy vodka sauce gnocchi

I’ve developed this recipe so that the gnocchi cooks right in the sauce. As the gnocchi cooks it will release starch, which will help thicken the sauce. If you can’t use vodka/alcohol then just replace it with the same amount of chicken broth to deglaze. It will still taste amazing.

You can serve this with any type of protein you’d like. I’ve done chicken cutlets, grilled chicken, smoked sausage, or even steak with this meal. If you’d like to add some veggies then I suggest some zucchini! It can cook right in the sauce and it pairs beautifully with the gnocchi. I wasn’t able to find burrata in my area, but this would be a lovely topping, otherwise parmesan works just fine.

Equipment

I used my Our Place Pan to cook this recipe. I’ve yet to have any sticking issues, and it washes so easily.

Ingredients for spicy vodka sauce gnocchi

  • drizzle of olive oil
  • 1/4 an onion
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 heaping tbsp of tomato paste
  • pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup vodka
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 500g gnocchi
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • parmesan (as much as you’d like)
  • fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Begin by dicing the onion and mincing the garlic. Add the onion to a pan on medium heat with a drizzle of olive oil. Fry for a few minutes until they begin to soften and smell fragrant.
  2. Next add the minced garlic and cook another couple minutes. After add the tomato paste and red pepper flakes. Cook down until the tomato paste darkens slightly and a slight caramelization begins to form.
  3. Pour in the vodka to deglaze the pan. Continue cooking and stirring for a couple minutes until the alcohol burns off.
  4. Add the chicken stock and heavy cream. Stir and bring to a boil before adding the gnocchi. Cook the gnocchi in the sauce for 5-7 minutes until cooked through, and sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Shut off the heat and season with the Italian seasoning and salt and pepper to taste. Add as much parmesan as you desire and serve with some fresh basil. Enjoy!
