Easy Smash Burgers

I’m not the biggest burger fan but I do really enjoy smash burgers. These smash burgers are very simple to make with minimal ingredients and packed with flavour. They feature thin juicy patties topped with caramelized onions and cheese, smothered in burger sauce, placed between a toasted bun.

Info and tips

Some people like to season the burgers in the pan which you totally can do. I seasoned my meat before forming the balls and mixed it in thoroughly. To me this helps the beef be seasoned more evenly.

To prevent sticking when smashing the burger, place a piece of parchment paper between the flipper and the burger.

You can also add whatever toppings you want to this recipe! I kept it very simple because I enjoy them most like that.

The sauce is a mixture of the common burger condiments along with some chopped dill pickles, but you can just add relish if you prefer.

  • ground beef (enough for 4 medium meatballs)
  • tsp salt
  • tsp pepper

  2. Meanwhile heat an oiled pan on medium heat. Slice the onions into thin half rings.
  3. Add the meatballs to the pan and press down with a flipper. Place a piece of parchment paper between the burger and flipper to to prevent the burger from sticking to the flipper.
  4. After a couple minutes add the onions to the uncooked side and flip the burgers.
  5. Once cooked, add a slice of cheese to one of the patties and put the second patty on top of the first. Remove from the pan once the cheese has melted and keep warm on the side.
  6. Wipe out any bits from the pan and add some butter or oil, toast the buns until golden brown.
  7. Meanwhile make the sauce by combining the condiments, adding a chopped pickle and a splash of pickle juice. Mix well.
  8. Build your burger by adding the patties to the bun along with the burger sauce. Feel free to add your favourite toppings. Enjoy!
