Info and tips for cheesy pepperoni pizza rolls

Here are some of my tips to make the best pizza rolls!

  • Don’t overfill the dough! Adding too much fillings can cause the rolls to burst open while baking. Just a thin layer of marinara and a handful of mozzarella works best.
  • You can either cut the dough into strips and then roll up, or roll up the whole dough then cut into slices!
  • I like to use a large baking dish to bake the rolls in. Basically exactly how you would make cinnamon rolls, just a savoury version! Make sure to leave some space in between the rolls so they can expand without sticking together.
  • Brush the rolls with the garlic parsley butter right after coming out of the oven so the flavour can really soak in!
  • Store in the fridge in an airtight container for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or airfryer to crisp back up.

Equipment

I used my KitchenAid Stand Mixer to make the dough. It is one of my favourite kitchen tools!

Ingredients for cheesy pepperoni pizza rolls

  • ΒΎ cup warm water
  • 1 Β½ tsp sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 ΒΌ tsp)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups AP flour
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • Β½ cup marinara sauce
  • 1 Β½ cups shredded mozzarella
  • Β½ cup pepperoni
  • Β½ tsp italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp parsley flakes

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. Add the olive oil, flour, and sea salt to the bowl. Knead the dough by hand or with the kneading attachment of a stand mixer for 5-7 minutes until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too dry you can add 1-2 tbsp of water as you knead.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Once risen, roll the dough into a large rectangle (about 10 Γ— 14 inches) on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle with mozzarella, pepperoni, and italian seasoning.
  6. Cut the dough into strips and roll up tightly. Place in an oiled baking dish, leaving enough space in between each roll so they can expand.
  7. Bake at 400 F for 30-40 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  8. While the rolls bake, melt the butter and stir in the garlic powder and parsley flakes. Brush the warm pizza rolls with the garlic butter and serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
