Hot honey cheesy garlic bread is one of my favourite appetizers ever, it truly never gets old. This recipe features a sweet garlic confit herb butter spread onto crusty bread topped with parmesan, mozzarella, and hot honey.

Info and tips for hot honey cheesy garlic bread

You can make garlic confit a couple ways. The first is by wrapping a whole head of garlic in tin foil with a drizzle of oil and pinch of salt. By using this method the garlic will cook in its own skin, and once cool, will need to be pressed out. The second option is roasting the garlic cloves in a dish with olive oil. With this method the garlic cloves don’t have their skin on and they cook directly in the oil. Both ways work great so its up to you!

I cooked my garlic in a dish with olive oil. I opted to add the garlic infused oil to my compound butter along with the garlic confit. This resulted in a more liquid butter, but I personally love the flavour of olive oil on garlic bread. If you don’t want to use the olive oil in your butter that’s fine! Just remove the garlic cloves from the oil, and store the olive oil in a jar for later use.

Equipment

I used my Kitchen Aid Food Processor to make the garlic compound butter.

Ingredients for hot honey cheesy garlic bread

  • 1 French bread loaf
  • 1 head of garlic
  • olive oil
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup parsley
  • pinch of flakey salt
  • 1/2 cup parmesan
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Start by roasting your garlic. Either do this by wrapping and entire head of garlic in tin foil and drizzling with olive oil, or cook the garlic cloves directly in olive oil (enough to cover) in a small oven safe dish. The tin foil method takes about an hour at 350 F, roasting directly in olive oil takes 40-45 minutes at 350 F.
  2. Next add the cooked garlic to a food processor along with butter, parsley, and flakey salt. If you roasted your garlic directly in olive oil, you can also choose to add some of the olive oil to the food processor. This will result in a more runny butter, but with a lovely olive oil flavour. Mix until well combined.
  3. Slice your French bread in half and spread the butter on both sides. Add parmesan and mozzarella to the bread evenly.
  4. Add to the oven for 15 minutes at 350 F. Watch carefully so it doesn’t burn.
  5. Remove from oven. Add honey and red pepper flakes to a small dish and microwave for 15-30 seconds until warm and runny. Brush over the cheesy garlic bread and top with a sprinkle more of fresh parsley. Enjoy!
