Info and tips for dumpling lasagna

This recipe is super customizable and a great fridge clean out. You can use any ground meat you have and almost any veggies. Some different mix ins you can use are:

  • kimchi
  • mushrooms
  • carrots
  • tofu
  • gochujang (if you want it spicy)
  • miso paste (more umami!)

I used dumpling wrappers but if you can’t find them wonton wrappers will work as well. Just make sure you dip each wrapper in some water before layering. For this dish we are using a steaming technique to cook the dumpling lasagna. It’s super simple so don’t be deterred. All you need is a saucepan with a lid and some water. Steaming keeps the dumpling meat juicy and tender, while also keeping that classic dumpling flavour and texture.

Equipment

I like to use my Our Place Pan for steaming. It comes with a lid that has built in steaming holes which is super helpful.

Ingredients for dumpling lasagna

  • 450g ground pork
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 cup shredded napa cabbage
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • ΒΌ cup minced cilantro
  • ΒΌ cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Β½ tsp pepper
  • dumpling wrappers
  • 2 tbsp water
  • chili crisp for topping

Instructions

  1. Begin by mixing the ground pork, minced garlic, minced ginger, napa cabbage, green onions, minced cilantro, oyster sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and pepper together until evenly combined.
  2. Using a few small ramekins or one larger dish, begin layering the dumpling wrappers and meat mixture. Make sure to dip each dumpling wrapper in water before layering. Make as many layers as you’d like (I did 3)!
  3. Fill a saucepan about a 1/4 full of water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Carefully add your ramekin(s) making sure the water doesn’t go over the edge. Cover with a lid and steam for 15-20 minutes, checking occasionally to make sure there is still enough water as it will slowly evaporate.
  4. Top the dumpling lasagna with some chili crisp and extra green onions if desired. Enjoy!

The dumpling lasagne sounds really good, right up my family’s alley. Do you put the meat in raw and it just cooks as it steams, or cook it first?

Hi Jess! Yes the meat is raw and gets cooked as it steams πŸ™‚
